The (Socially Distanced) Autumn Challenge: Announcement!

I have a confession to make: I used to despise Autumn. As September crept in, I cringed, awaiting what I felt was the most horrific time of the year. I grew up in a city without seasons, where the greatest seasonal change was the difference between hot and less hot. So, when I moved to a place where that was no longer the case, I was horrified at the drastic shift.

It grew cold and dry. Instead of noticing the beauty in the leaves, I would only spot the ones that were dead and crumbled. The chill of seasonal depression filled my veins.

This past Autumn, I’ve decided to accept two different changes in my life: the changes of the seasons, and the changes in my values. I want to appreciate the beauty in things, no matter the circumstances. And, somehow, with the mindset of optimism — and the willingness to leave my previous disdain behind — I’ve been able to enjoy the season. I notice the beauty in the orange hues and delight in the taste of pumpkin, cinnamon, and apple cider. The rain-tinted, sweater-worthy air can be refreshing and solemn, rather than an annoyance.

I want to bring the community together to spread joy and optimism during this season, no matter the circumstances. I know that in 2020, the circumstances may look different than they had previously. There is one full month left of Autumn, and, during that remaining time, I declare a challenge.

I challenge my readers to, as they’re able, to do every little thing on this list.

On my Instagram, I’ll be sharing my own experience and collaborating with some other people. If you’d like to join over there, try posting using the above graphic or the hashtag #SociallyDistancedAutumnChallenge.

Soon, I’ll be announcing some online events where people can come together (virtually) to complete some of these things!

If you don’t want to do them on their corresponding days, you don’t have to. And if you’ve decided to try the challenge…good luck, dear reader. I hope for many smiles and sweet things in the months to come.

Keep wandering,

Will you be attempting the challenge? Talk to me!

  1. Hey Sophia! I’ve already completed seven on the list! Hoping to do more 🙂 And YES Frank Sinatra somehow makes the world more magical. Lol! I think it’s awesome that you decided to do things differently and start looking at the positives instead of focusing on the negatives. Keep up the amazing work!
